I first met Somphors in 2017 while I was volunteering in rural Cambodia. She came from a poor background but had a bright spirit and a huge heart. She dreamed of going to university, but her family couldn’t afford it.
Together with friends, we supported Somphors through university — and over time, a strong friendship grew between us.
Inspired to give back, Somphors began teaching local children under the shade of a tree. There were no walls, no materials — just passion, creativity, and a deep love for the children in her village.
Her family generously donated a piece of marshland to help bring her dream to life.
With the help of Lou, one of our trustees, we raised the funds we needed and registered the Sorn Foundation as an official UK charity. Together, we began building a real school — brick by brick, from the ground up.
Today, that school is fully registered in Cambodia and filled with laughter, learning, and hope.
What started under a tree has become a safe, inspiring place where children can dream bigger and build brighter futures.
